Marilyn lives in Suffolk where she has a small stained glass workshop in Oulton Broad. A childhood fascination with church stained glass windows encouraged her to learn to work with stained glass using the Tiffany method under the tuition of other established glass artists.
Marilyn has a PhD in plant science and her love of the subject and the natural world has overflowed into her glasswork. Most of Marilyn’s work has a nature theme with many of her glass projects featuring flowers, fungi or small creatures such as ladybirds. Using the Tiffany method, bright colourful glass gives Marilyn the opportunity to produce detailed pictures in glass. Her strong attention to detail shows in her series of original and unique, appliqué light boxes and mirrors which are exhibited in her portfolio and local art gallery.
Recently Marilyn has been exploring the medieval illumination technique of glass painting using earth coloured powdered paint, kiln firing and staining using silver oxide. An examples of her work using this method can be seen here and on her portfolio page.
Marilyn’s enthusiasm to teach Tiffany skills to others has encouraged her to run independent, small successful workshops in her local art gallery and in her Suffolk studio. Marilyn has undertaken many unique commissions for her own family and other clients in Norfolk and Suffolk.
